Juticalpa Water Project

Help change lives in Juticalpa Honduras by providing desperately needed clean water.

8-Minute video explaining the Juticupla-Roatan Island Honduras Community Water Project

You or your club can make a difference!

Where is Juticalpa?

The community of Juticalpa is located in the Municipality of Santos Guardiola, Roatan Island, Honduras.  30 miles off the north coast of Honduras in the western Caribbean Sea.  Juticalpa has a population of 750 people. Most residents work in tourism, construction, and the fishing industry. The average monthly income per family is only  $370 USD.

What is the problem?

Only 40% of the community has access to a limited water supply. In the summer, water is available on 1 day every 2 weeks. In the winter, water is available 1 day every week. The existing well does not recharge very quickly so it takes 1 to 2 weeks to fill the community water tank. The remaining 60% of the community has no access to water.

What are we planning to do?

With the construction of a new water well, we will provide potable water to cover the remaining 40% of the homes and increase the number of liters per house throughout the community. We will provide WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) training to adults and children and every household will have suitable water containers to prevent disease.

With your help, Rotary can provide potable water to 100% of the homes in this community in a sustainable way.
